No Piggyback Permits 💧🚫

A little-known practice called “permit piggybacking,” allows large industrial water users to operate under a city’s water permit instead of obtaining their own. Read more about the concerning practice and get the deep dive on “Permit Piggybacking” from CURE Legal Intern, Alex Anthony.
No Pipeline by Pipestone 🛢️🚫
Magellan is attempting to get a route permit for their 8-inch gas and petroleum products pipeline that has been shut off since 2022. The reroute skirts the Pipestone National Monument, a place that holds deep importance for many Indigenous nations. Last year after strong opposition from Tribal governments, the MN Public Utilities Commission (PUC) withdrew its original permit decision and ordered more information gathering. Comment by September 11th as the PUC considers the reroute.
Silver Rapids Comment Period Moves Forward ⏰

The Silver Rapids project near Ely is back. Developers have restarted the permitting process for a proposal that still includes 44 large “fractional ownership” units and amenities, with only modest changes from the plan proposed two years ago. An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) has been completed. Now is the time to weigh in. Email Lake County your comments, questions, and concerns by August 6th.
