Day of Truth and Freedom

ICE Out of MN - Day of Truth & Freedom - Friday, January 23

CURE is pausing our normal order of business on Friday, January 23rd, and we want to share why.

ICE’s dangerous operations have surged across Minnesota. Federal agents are inciting fear and violence and putting our families and neighbors at risk. Last year, 32 people died in ICE custody. And on January 7th, ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Macklin Good, a constitutional observer in Minneapolis who had just dropped her young child off at school. ICE has abducted U.S. citizens and immigrants regardless of legal status and used chemical weapons against community members who posed no threat. Across Minnesota, people are scared to go to work, school, and medical appointments. We cannot treat this as normal.

CURE is participating in the ICE Out of Minnesota Day of Truth & Freedom this Friday, Jan 23rd, to demand:

  • ICE leave Minnesota immediately.
  • The agent who killed Renee Good be held legally accountable.
  • Congress refuse additional federal funding for ICE in the upcoming Congressional budget.
  • Congress investigate ICE for human rights and constitutional violations of Americans and our neighbors.
  • Minnesota and national corporations become 4th Amendment businesses, cease economic relations with ICE, and refuse ICE entry and use of their property for staging grounds.

Why join this action?

Withholding labor and economic activity forces attention on what those in power would rather ignore. It shows that workers, like you, are paying attention and will not stand by or be complicit. We will not work or sustain an economy that threatens our neighbors and us.

We’re asking you to join us:

  • Don’t shop.
  • Don’t work (unless you work in emergency services).
  • Use the day to show up for your neighbors and your community.

Here are some ways to use the day:

  • Call your members of Congress and demand they intervene to stop ICE operations and ensure accountability for federal agents operating in Minnesota.
  • Ask companies, like Hilton Hotels, Enterprise, and Target, to STOP supporting ICE with the use of their products and facilities.
  • Visit iceoutnowmn.com for actions happening near you.
  • If you’re not able to be out in the streets, support mutual aid efforts across the state at standwithminnesota.com.
  • Plan how you will show up at precinct caucuses on February 3rd and bring forward a resolution to oppose the inhumane policies and procedures of immigration enforcement.
