CURE Opposes ICE Detention Plans in Appleton 🚫

CURE is disappointed and alarmed that plans to reopen the Appleton, MN, prison—run by private company CoreCivic—as an ICE detention center, appear to be moving forward. This year, we’ve seen ICE and its detention system systematically deprive people of their rights, often without regard to legal status. We call on ICE to halt these plans, or for state and local leaders to intervene against it. Learn More.

A bittersweet update: After nearly five years with CURE, Clovis Curl will be leaving the team at the end of June as she heads to North Carolina. As our Communications and Research Strategist, she helped CURE ask the right questions, tell stories that matter, and connect rural Minnesota communities with the resources they need to make their voices heard. This summer, CURE is hosting two legal interns!

Alexander Anthony is a rising third-year law student at the University of Minnesota Law School and hails from Northern Virginia. He decided to pursue environmental law after seeing weak enforcement fail to protect endangered marine life. After law school, he plans to return to the East Coast to help Mid-Atlantic communities address major environmental challenges.

Max Oechsner is a rising third-year law student at Vermont Law and Graduate School. He is passionate about energy law and environmental justice. Originally from Lake Placid, New York, Max holds a degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Vermont. Outside of work, Max enjoys skiing, soccer, and rock climbing.
