For 25 years CURE has worked from many angles to protect and restore water quality in Minnesota, especially in the highly agricultural watersheds of the Minnesota River Basin. Results are mixed, but it’s clear that we cannot claim success. Forty Percent of Minnesota’s surface waters tested to date fail to meet protective water quality standards.
Governor Dayton recognized that Minnesota has not done enough to protect our state’s iconic waters. He named water quality improvement a top priority of his administration and announced his target goal to achieve a 25% improvement in water quality by 2025.
CURE members boldly supported the governor’s clean water efforts. They advocated on behalf of the governor’s buffer law, advocated for smarter agricultural practices at the Governor’s water summits, and on a daily basis champion efforts that advocate for cleaner water.
